Northwest Fire District

Heat Warning

It is going to be a record-breaking week for heat and Northwest Fire wants to help you, your family, and pets stay safe with these tips:
Heat Safety Tips

Heat Safety Tips

  • NEVER leave children or pets in a parked car.
  • Find activities indoors for you and your family during the peak hours of the day.
  • If you must perform work or activities outside, do so in the early morning or late evening hours, if possible.
  • Use sunscreen and shade if you are outside during the day.
  • Make sure your air conditioning is working well and your air filters are clean to prevent extra strain on the system.
  • Check on elderly family and friends this week since they are less resilient to extreme temperatures.
  • Keep pets inside, if possible, and have plenty of water set out for them.
  • Walk your dog in the morning or evening hours and check the ground temperature by placing your hand to the ground.  If the ground is too hot to touch, it is too hot for your dog’s paws.
  • Keep extra water with you when traveling – even if just around town.
  • Finally, HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE.  Shade and water and, if possible, a cooled environment will be your best defense against the heat.

Remember to stay hydrated!
